35 Surfboards // 35 Artists
Recycled surfboards donated by Rerip
Among the participating artists was singer-songwriter and philanthropist Jason Mraz, whose all-white “PEACE AND QUIET” surfboard transformed under black light to show the bright and bold “MAKE SOME NOISE.”
All 35 surfboards were sold through an online auction and were exhibited during Mission Fed ArtWalk in April 2019. Proceeds from this Charity Art Auction directly benefited our free programs for youth that do not otherwise have access to visual arts opportunities.
Surfboard Art Auction In the News
SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE // Rerip has collected and repurposed thousands of surfboards and wetsuits, along with giveaways and donation programs, an annual fundraiser, and participation in this year’s Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy on April 27 and 28. Rerip is donating 35 surfboards, in honor of the event’s 35th anniversary, to be transformed by visual artists and auctioned off to benefit the visual arts education nonprofit ArtReach.
THERE SAN DIEGO // Mission Federal ArtWalk is partnering with Rerip, who will provide ArtReach with 35 surfboards that will be transformed into original artwork and auctioned off at the event. “With Rerip’s generous donation, artists are able to express themselves creatively while helping ArtReach achieve its mission of providing free art classes to students in SD County,” said Sandi Cottrell, director of ArtWalk San Diego.
PRESIDIO SENTINEL // Popular singer-song writer, Jason Mraz, is participating in this year’s event and has created his own one-of-a-kind surfboard that will be available for auction online and in person at Mission Federal ArtWalk, where the surfboards will be on display. In addition, San Diego artist Jeremy Sicile-Kira, an artist with autism and synesthesia—the ability to see letters, words and emotions in color, is painting a surfboard.
